Willard Munger State Trail
The Willard Munger State Trail is one of the longest paved trails in the U.S. and starts right behind our inn. This trail is perfect for cross-country skiing, hiking, and connecting to other trails. Enjoy easy access to snowmobiling and a variety of other outdoor activities.
The Western Waterfront Trail
Located just 2 blocks behind the inn, this trail is ideal for birdwatching and spotting wildlife such as deer, ducks, and beavers. The trail is groomed for classical skiing and offers a peaceful experience for beginner skiers.
The Superior Hiking Trail
The Superior Hiking Trail begins right from the Munger Inn and provides breathtaking views of the St. Louis River and the city of Duluth. It’s a great place for hiking and wildlife observation, with abundant foxes, deer, and other animals.
Duluth Western Hillside Trails
Starting at the Lake Superior Zoo, these trails connect with the Munger Trail and are excellent for birdwatching and enjoying the area's natural beauty. In winter, these trails are suitable for snowshoeing.
Jay Cooke State Park Trails
Located about 7 miles from the inn, Jay Cooke State Park offers some of Minnesota's most pristine park trails. The park features groomed cross-country ski trails suitable for all skill levels, with stunning views of the St. Louis River.
Magney-Snively Cross Country Trails
About 2 miles from the inn, the Magney-Snively trails wind through an old-growth forest and provide beautiful views of the St. Louis River and Duluth harbor. These trails are maintained for both traditional and skate skiing.
Superior Municipal Cross-Country Trails
Approximately 3 miles from the Munger Inn, these trails are groomed by the city of Superior and cater to skiers of all levels. You can ski across the St. Louis River from the Western Waterfront Trail, conditions permitting.
Lester Park Cross-Country Ski Trails
Situated about 7 miles north, these trails offer spectacular views and are well-known for their scenic beauty. The 7 Bridges Road, which follows the Lester River, is a must-see.
Snowflake Trail
This privately maintained trail system is renowned for its excellent grooming and includes a warming house. It’s suitable for skiers of all levels and provides a cozy retreat during your adventure.
Boulder Lake Cross Country Ski and Snowshoe Area
Located beyond Snowflake, Boulder Lake features well-maintained trails and a warming house with refreshments. It's an ideal spot for both cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
Brule, Wisconsin
About 20 miles east of the Munger Inn, Brule offers groomed trails for classical and skate skiing. This area is a hidden gem for cross-country enthusiasts.
