Duluth Western Hillside Trails
|
|
Starts
at the Lake Superior Zoo, right across the street from
the Willard Munger Inn. Many of these trails also connect
with the Munger Trail and are nice for birding and for
their remoteness. Lots of deer, partridge and an occasional
bear can be seen while hiking these trails. In winter
these trails are not groomed and are suitable for snow
shoeing. Maps are available in the Munger Inn office. |

Jay Cooke State Park Trails
|
|
Located
about 7 miles away from the Munger Inn by taking The Willard
Munger Trail or by driving your car west on Highway 23.
Jay Cooke State Park is perhaps Minnesota's most pristine
park with the scenic St. Louis River flowing right through
it. There are numerous groomed cross country ski trails
in the park for all skill level skiers. |

Magney-Snively Cross Country Trails
|
|
Located
about two miles away from the Munger Inn by car or trail.
This beautiful area is part of an old growth forest and
has one beautiful viewing points that allow you to get
a wonderful view of the St. Louis River and the Duluth
harbor. The cross-country ski trails at Magney Snively
are beautiful and remote and are maintained by the city
of Duluth. They are groomed for skate skiers as well as
traditional cross-country skiers. |

Superior Municipal Cross Country Trails
|
|
Located
about 3 miles from the Munger Inn by car or on Wisconsin
side of St. Louis River. Here you will find even more
beautiful trails suitable for all levels of ability. These
trails are groomed by the city of Superior, Wisconsin
for skaters as well as traditional skiers. You can ski
across the St. Louis River from the Water front Trail
(conditions permitting) to these beautiful trails. |

Lester Park cross-counrty Ski Trails
|
|
Located
about 7 miles north by car on I-35 to East Duluth. You
won't want to miss a car ride or hike along the spectacular
7 bridges road which follows the Lester River, not to
mention experiencing the well maintained and groomed cross
country ski trails at Lester Park. |

Snowflake Trail
|
|
This
is a privately run cross-country ski trail system which
is very well maintained and has a nice warming house.
The cost to ski Snowflake is nominal and you will find
it to be a great place to ski for all levels of ability.

Boulder Lake Cross Country Ski and Snow Shoe Area
|
|
This
is a great cross-country ski area maintained by Minnesota
Power. The trails are very well maintained and there is
a nice warming house with hot cider and coffee. You will
live this ski area. The ski area is located beyond Snowflake
on Highway 4 (commonly known as the Rice Lake Road or
Rudy Perpich Memorial Highway) which leads to Ely, Minnesota.

Brule, Wisconsin
|
|
Located
off of Highway 2 approximately 20 miles east to Brule,
Wisconsin, Turn right on After Hours Road. For $3 per
day you will find some great cross country ski trails
groomed for both classical and skate skiing. |

In
addition to the above trails, there are dozens of other
very nice trails in the area suitable for hiking, snow
shoeing or cross country skiing. If you do not have your
own skis we can arrange for you to get cross-country skis
on a rental basis from the Willard Munger Inn. We can
also provide you with warm clothing from our supply of
snowsuits, bibs and jackets. |
